Nature is Calling

We’re nearing the end of a wonderful trip. We leave tonight. But first let’s explore what happened yesterday. And explore is what we did. We went on a half-day hike through part of the Maui rainforest. Our guide was great, a true Maui native. And I felt like he couldn’t be happier than hiking through the rainforest every day and getting paid for it. Wouldn’t it be nice if we could all feel that way about our jobs. We saw three different waterfalls, hiked through a stream, did some rock climbing, and learned about many of the flowers, fruits, trees, bushes, weeds, and whatever else I’m forgetting. I was a fitting last activity, and it’s interesting that it worked out that way. Initially we were planning on hiking Wednesday. But this worked just fine.

Dinner was at the Sea House in the Napili area. While not as pricey as Mama’s Fish House, it was a very nice location. Close to if not right on the water (it was dark, I can’t remember). Good food too, don’t want to forget that. It’s just that finding it in the dark, wasn’t all that easy. Luckily Chef Mike was very helpful.

If you have a chance go see this, no regrets:

Do the Splurge

Yesterday I went soaring high above the treetops. The wind was flowing around my head (I have no hair). The sun was shining. It was a beautiful day. All while being attached to a (not so) little steel cable. Ziplining in Maui is lots of fun. We did 8 zips, each one longer than the last. With the final line being 1100 feet. At first it seems a bit intimidating but with the great guides we had, it was an all around enjoyable experience. Thank you Leo and Casey. They completely explained every step and kept the mood light. You can tell they really enjoy their jobs.

One zip in particular presented a bit of a challenge for Ooh to make it across because she’s lighter than your average zipper. So she got the slingshot treatment. While I thought it was really cool, she was a little scared.

After we instituted extensive cleaning measures due to the fabulous Maui red dirt (its everywhere!), we went to Mama’s Fish House. Now, the prices are high. There’s no way to sugar coat that. You will spend $100 or more. You still have to go. The food was very good; I would even say amazing (I don’t want to because I’m tired of hearing that word. Ooh says it about everything). If you’re going to Maui, pick one splurge dining opportunity and go to Mama’s Fish House, you will be immensely pleased (maybe amazed).

This is called The Flying Ooh:
